Cranbrook’s historic Memorial Arena was re-christened over the weekend with a seven-hour community celebration.
The day included live music, food, and a poster board displays of the arena’s heritage.
Mayor Wayne Price opened the proceedings by thanking all those involved in the $3-plus million refurbishment – contractors, city staff, and the Regional District of East Kootenay who pitched in with a half-million-dollar contribution.
For RDEK Chair Rob Gay, on hand at the Saturday event, it only made sense to help with the upgrades…
Besides this contribution, Gay said the RDEK is also active in helping the Key City Theatre and Cranbrook’s history centre where it can.
