Fernie Search and Rescue says a pair of skiers escaped an avalanche at Mount Fernie Thursday unharmed.
Local SAR crews responded the incident around 1:00 pm, the slide was estimated as a size 2.5-3, 150 m wide and with a debris pile around 4 m deep.
As SAR was preparing its resources, the skiers managed to self-rescue without injury.
Avalanche Canada says the risk for slides remains high in the East Kootenay.
The organization says risk for human triggered slides due to rising temperatures is making backcountry conditions very dangerous.
