Fernie City Council has approved a site for a new fire hall for the community.
City council has endorsed a plan for the new Fernie Fire and Emergency Services home to be at a portion of 1500 5th Avenue at Prentice Park.
Project planner Samuel Alatorre says the fire department is in need of a new facility as their current, temporary home no longer meets the needs of local firefighters.
This decision follows several rounds of consultation, another site at 902 2nd Avenue had also been considered, plans call for the new fire hall to be operational by 2026.
Meanwhile, city council has pledged to work with community groups, particularly slo pitch leagues, who use Servello Field at Prentice Park.
