The Community of ʔaq’am is confirming the St. Mary’s River wildfire is officially declared out.
The fire ignited on July 17 and grew to 4,640 hectares, it destroyed seven homes and an evacuation order for community residents was in effect for 23 days.
The community is thanking BC Wildfire Service personnel, emergency management teams, Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services and all who supported the community through this summer’s wildfire.
The community asks that the public refrain from accessing or visiting ʔaq’am lands impacted by the fire while remediation and rebuilding efforts are ongoing.
