Search and Rescue crews in the Elk Valley responded to a false alarm over the long weekend.
SAR teams in Fernie and Sparwood responded to an emergency activation of a Garmin InReach PLB device.
The signal started in the Mount Broadwood area, then travelled through to Leach Ridge and Corbin.
Turns out the device had a false activation and the owner was unaware this had occured.
Search and Rescue says users of older InReach devices need to be aware that the SOS lock does not stop unintended activations if pressure is placed on the outside of the case.
They advise you to put devices in pockets on the top of your hiking pack, with nothing else around them to apply pressure.
All device activations are treated as emergencies by search and rescue teams until established as otherwise.
