Sparwood’s mayor says Tuesday was a good day for the community with the lifting of the Evacuation Alert for several properties near the Lladnar Creek Wildfire.
David Wilks is praising the efforts of all who helped with wildfire response in Sparwood through the last few weeks.
“Certainly talking to BC Wildfire Service, they believe that have the fire well in hand and they’ve done an amazing job at containing [the fire] to a certain area,” says Wilks. “We’re exceptionally happy with how everything has turned out.”
He says the Lladnar Creek fire continues to burn and will likely continue to display activity, the only thing that will ultimately put the fire out is snow.
Wilks is reminding Sparwood residents to continue FireSmart efforts on their property.
“If you see things on your property that could cause concern, remove them,” Wilks says. “Certainly, we are quite happy with how things have gone considering other parts of the province have been so devastated. We are very, very fortunate.”
The Lladnar Creek Wildfire was sparked by lightning on July 21, the fire has grown to 1,295 hectares, several properties around Matevic Road and Sparwood Heights were placed on Evacuation Alert for up to four weeks.
