The BC Wildfire Service saw success in dealing with several local wildfires over the course of the weekend.
The St. Mary’s River wildfire was classified as under control on Sunday.
A number of roads within ʔaq̓am remain closed to the public for the time being in response to this blaze, including the Mission Wasa Low Road and Mission Road through to LD Ranch Road.
A planned ignition around the Lladnar Creek wildfire near Sparwood saw some success.
The ignition was done by wildfire crews on the south side of the fire Sunday to remove unburnt fuels between the fire edge and established control lines.
The operation strengthened containment of the wildfire, with crews planning to burn several remaining pockets of fuel Monday morning.
A similar planned ignition is planned Monday to address the Yearling Creek wildfire east of Radium.
