Canada celebrates its 156th birthday Saturday.
Canada Day celebrations are planned in communities throughout the East Kootenay, including Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and Invermere.

Cranbrook:
Cranbrook residents can take in the Canada Day festivities at Rotary Park from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m.
There will be plenty of activities, along with food and music throughout the day.
Elkford:
Wildcat Days are happening in Elkford, starting Friday, June 30 and continuing throughout the long weekend.
Plenty of activities are happening throughout the district on Canada Day, including a pancake breakfast, volleyball and slo-pitch tournaments and the Wildcat Days Parade.

Fernie:
The City of Fernie will be hosting a reconciliation walk from city hall to the aquatic centre, where they’ll be hosting activities throughout the afternoon.
Fernie residents can expect music, activities for the entire family and a mini mountain market taking place.
Fairmont Hot Springs:
Activities are planned at the resort community, with live music at the park and birthday cake being served.
Festivities at the park go from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Invermere:
Invermere gets the party started early with fireworks at midnight, hosted by the Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley.
There will also be a parade through Downtown Invermere, starting at Pothole Park and travelling down 7th Avenue. Expect road closures to start there at 10:00 a.m.
Kimberley:
Kimberley will be hosting a Canada Day edition of their First Saturdays event in the platzl, running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
This includes a pancake breakfast, an arts and crafters market and live music.
Sparwood:
Canada Day celebrations are happening at the Sparwood Leisure Centre.
The all ages event will include fire truck rides, bouncy houses, face painting and a barbeque by donation.
St Eugene Golf Resort and Casino:
The Casino of the Rockies will be celebrating Canada Day.
There will be prize draws throughout the night and everyone who enters the casino on July 1st will receive $10 Free Play and a Scratch and Win ticket.
Casino goers can also enjoy live music, snacks and treats throughout the night.
