BC Hydro wants to make Cranbrook a more appealing place for energy-intensive industrial developers.
Cranbrook has been selected for BC Hydro’s Load Attraction Program, an initiative that offers incentives and funding to convince developers to set up shop in the Key City’s industrial lands.
Cranbrook’s Darren Brewer says over $100-million has been set aside to support feasibility and planning costs for developers.
“As a part of this load attraction program, the province has allocated this money, developers don’t have to have the outlay on it.” says Brewer. “It’s also around the timing of the electricity, it’s readily available, which means BC Hydro will work with the potential developer to get the power to the lands in a timely fashion.”
Brewer says Cranbrook’s industrial lands makes the Key City an attractive opportunity for industrial developers.
“Cranbrook is quite blessed to have quite a few different opportunities,” he says. “Whether it be with Aq’am in the lands they held beside the airport, or industrial lands that are within the City of Cranbrook, we definitely have a lot of investment ready lands.”
