Cranbrook and Kimberley doctors are inviting you to join them for a lunchtime walk Thursday afternoon.
Walk with your Doc is an annual BC event where patients and community members can walk with their doctors and ask health related questions in an informal setting.
Organizer Dr. Ilona Hale says the event is meant to discuss the benefits of daily activity.
“By getting out for walks or doing other types of even not vigorous exercise on a regular basis, you can reduce your risk for all kinds of health conditions like heart disease and stroke and diabetes,” Hale says. “It can help control your weight and it’s good for depression and anxiety, the list goes on and on. It even helps prevent cancer.”
Hale says local patients and community members will be able to talk with their medical professionals in an informal setting.
“Doctors can get out and walk on their lunch hour or whatever and they invite everybody in the community to come and join them,” Hale says. “It’s really just a way to raise awareness about the importance of walking and other physical activities to our health. It also gives us a chance for [doctors] to just meet informally with people in our community which is always fun.”
The Cranbrook walk starts at 12:10 pm at Rotary Park, the Kimberley walk is at the Platzl at noon.
