Elk Valley RCMP are looking for more information after a driver fled from police in Fernie’s James White Park.
The incident happened Monday, May 1, after police received reports of a white lifted Chevy truck doing donuts near the boat launch and almost hitting a family walking in the area.
Police stopped the truck and the driver initially cooperated before taking off and fleeing the scene.
RCMP were called the morning of Tuesday, May 2 for a report of an impaired driver at a work site in Elko in the same white Chevy truck from the previous night.
The driver presented some medical concerns and was taken to the hospital in Fernie for treatment, where it was confirmed the driver had consumed drugs prior to driving the Chevy to work.
The 37-year-old man was served a 24 hour driving prohibition related to drug use.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and further charges are expected.
