A rainfall warning is in effect in the Elk Valley and for Highway 3 through the Kootenay Pass.
Environment Canada expects up to 50 millimeters of rain to fall by Tuesday morning.
They also warn rising freezing levels and melting snow may increase river flows, which could lead to localized flooding in some areas.
Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads, which could affect road conditions.
