It’s just about time to drop the puck for the Female U13 BC Hockey Championships at Cranbrook’s Memorial Arena.
The Cranbrook Bucks Female U13 squad is hosting the annual championship tournament this year following a successful regular season.
Provincial championships host committee chair Amy Cross says the players, coaches and parents are excited to get the tournament started.
“Everyone is super excited for the girls to get out on the ice, for the ceremonies, for the banquet,” Cross says. “We have an awesome barbeque planned for Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, I would say ‘excited’ is probably the word I would use today.”
Cross says the team is thankful for all the sponsors and volunteers who have helped with this year’s provincial championships, you’re invited to the opening ceremonies Thursday at 6:15 at the Memorial Arena.
The U13 Bucks are competing with 7 other teams for provincial gold, defender Cali Cross says they’re hoping to make a statement against some of BC’s best.
“I think we’re pretty excited, I hope we get some wins,” says the younger Cross. “We’re a little nervous, but overall – pretty excited.”
Their first game is 7:00 pm Thursday at Memorial Arena, following the opening ceremonies.
Meanwhile, several other local teams are hitting the ice, or have finished up with their bids at the provincial championships in other divisions and age groups.
The U13 Tier 2 Bucks claimed provincial gold at their tournament in Prince George.

The U13 Tier 3 CMHA club qualified for the provincials in West Vancouver while Fernie and Windermere Valley were at the Tier 4 tournament in Invermere.
At the U15 level, the East Kootenay Avalanche qualified for the Tier 1 tournament in Fort St. John and Cranbrook was at the Tier 2 tournament in Kelowna.
In the U18 provincials, East Kootenay Avalanche was in the Tier 1 tournament in Salmon Arm, Cranbrook qualified for the Tier 3 tournament in Delta while Creston and Windermere Valley both punched their tickets for the Tier 4 tournament in Clearwater.
