The third round of the KIJHL playoffs gets underway Friday night.
The Kimberley Dynamiters face off with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the Kootenay Conference Championships.
Both teams needed Game 7 victories to advance to this round of the playoffs, with Kimberley eliminating Fernie and Beaver Valley eliminating Creston.
Head Coach Derek Stuart says he’s thankful for the rest his team has had since wrapping up the second round.
“Both teams are probably very grateful for the last couple of days of rest and the three day break that we do get as opposed to last year,” Stuart says. “There’s not going to be any advantage in terms of rest-wise, at all.”
Stuart says the Nitros need a stronger start to this series compared to the first two rounds.
“We weren’t very good in the first two series in the first two games at home. I think we only won one of the four games and then we were very good after that,” Stuart says. “We need a better start at home and we need to take advantage of our home ice advantage.”
Game One and Two are happening at the Kimberley Civic Centre Friday and Saturday, with Game three set for Tuesday in Fruitvale.
Elsewhere, the Revelstoke Grizzlies face the Princeton Posse, with that series starting in Princeton Friday night.
