The Ministry of Environment and the Regional District of East Kootenay are continuing efforts to address a 12,000 litre diesel fuel spill in Jaffray last month.
The RDEK provided their latest update on the incident, saying the Ministry of Environment is continuing collection and removal of diesel contaminants from a recovery trench.
They add that water samples and soil samples have been collected to assess quality, with results from the soil samples expected March 4th at the earliest.
The Ministry of Environment is also continuing with a monitoring well installation and bore hole drilling program over the weekend.
An alternate drilling subcontractor is being brought in to continue with installation Saturday and Sunday.
The Ministry is also working with Stantec to determine the feasibility of a water treatment system on site to support the return of clean water back into the natural system and to limit impacts on the groundwater levels and river flows.
More updates are expected from the Ministry of Environment in the coming weeks. You can find the latest updates by clicking here.
