A candidate in Invermere’s upcoming by-election hopes to bring his 17 years of experience as a Columbia Valley business owner to the district council table.
Grant Kelly is one of the five candidates seeking to fill the empty council seat in the March 4th by-election.
He’s called Invermere home for over 22 years, serving as a past director for the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce and a part of Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley.
“I’d been contemplating on doing it for some time, but due to having a couple of businesses over 17 years, I just didn’t feel I had the necessary time,” Kelly says. “Now that I am in a position that I am able to work part-time, I’m able to spend more time on council.”
Kelly wants to work on long term, sustainable solutions to Invermere’s affordable housing shortage.
“From my research, there’s the short-term rental issue and everyone has that,” Kelly says. “There’s always things that come up with zoning and as we grow, more issues come up.”
Kelly adds he’s committed to the continued development of a walkable and bikable Invermere.
More details about Grant Kelly taken from his by-election pamphlet can be found below.
The byelection is happening March 4. Advance polling dates are set for February 22 and March 2.
