New child care spaces are coming to Kimberley with the development of a new $8.8 million facility at the site of Marysville Elementary School.
The new childcare facility set to be built in Marysville will bring 148 new child care spaces into the community.
This includes 24 infant or toddler spaces, 100 pre-school spaces and 24 after-school care spaces.
An application was made by the Rocky Mountain School District of for money from the BC Government’s ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, with the support of Columbia Basin Trust and the Summit Community Services Society.
That application was approved this month, with the facility expected to help address waitlists for child care in the Kimberley area.
Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony included representatives from School District and the City of Kimberley, partners for the project and BC Minister of State for Child Care, Grace Lore.
