Kimberley RCMP is hoping to address shortages with staffing in 2023.
The police detachment spent 2022 dealing with a surge in mental health calls, impaired drivers and an increase in property theft.
Sergeant Steve Woodcox says the local detachment was working at 50 percent staffing levels for most of 2022.
This has put a strain on local police and the programs they can offer in the community.
Woodcox says they are working to address vacancies in the detachment to try and help the members that have been working over the past year.
He adds addressing staff shortages would help police spend more time at local schools.
Woodcox feels being involved with youth helps strengthen their relationship with law enforcement.
