A candidate who is running for Kimberley City Council in next month’s election has designs on a sustainable community for the future.
Sue Cairns is running in the upcoming municipal election, she boasts 25 years of work experience with provincial natural resource agencies and has a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from UBC.
She wants to find solutions to issues on sustainability, housing affordability, wildfire protection and through innovative partnerships with organizations and other levels of government.
“The key topics that I see right at this point are affordability, housing, vulnerability to wildfire, watershed security risks and aged-out infrastructure,” says Cairns. “I’d really like to work on these topics.”
Cairns is also putting a premium on maintaining Kimberley’s small mountain town vibe.
“I want to be at the table to work on solutions that sustain Kimberley’s small mountain town-feel,” Cairns says. “I think that when we work together on the hard stuff we get creative as a community and build on our unique assets and talents. That’s really when great things happen.”
Cairns says she’ll support the referendum on borrowing funds to replace Kimberley’s wastewater treatment plant as it needs to happen.
The municipal election is October 15.
