Sparwood’s fire department has promoted a new Deputy Fire Chief from within their own ranks.
The District announced Sheldon Tennant has been selected for the role.
Mayor David Wilks says he’s thrilled Tennant was promoted after serving 18 years with the local detachment.
“Really pleased to have Sheldon on the team. He’s a lifelong person from Sparwood, born and raised here,” Wilks says. “His passion has always been fire services and we’re happy to have him on board.”
Wilks says Tennant brings a wealth of experience in emergency management to the department, having served as President of the East Kootenay Mines Industrial Safety Association.
“Through Line Creek, he ran the Mine Rescue Competitions for years and years ,” Wilks says. “He was the president of the Mine Rescue Association for all four mines and has done exceptionally well. We’re really pleased to have him, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and I think he fits in with this team exceptionally well.”
Tennant said in a statement that he’s excited to have an opportunity to be part of the development of the next generation of officers in the department.
