Several residents joined members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, RCMP, local politicians and other dignitaries to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth in Cranbrook Monday.
The Legion held a ceremony to mark the Queen’s state funeral at Rotary Park.
Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka was one of the speakers at the event, he spoke about the late monarch’s longevity.
“She will be remembered as a strong and thoughtful leader who represented stability through many times of turmoil throughout the world,” said Shypitka. “Wars, economic hardship and even Royal scandal; she met it all with warm grace.”
Cranbrook Legion president Colleen Jones was also among the event’s speakers, she quoted some of the Queen’s well known phrases from over the years.
“I know of no single formula, she said, but over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal,” Jones said, quoting the late Queen.
The event featured a wreath laying ceremony near the Cenotaph, and those in attendance were able to sign a condolence book which will be sent to England.
You can stop by the Legion and sign the book if you weren’t at Monday’s ceremony, it will be on display for the next nine days.
