Servers and bartenders at a Cranbrook restaurant are celebrating Canada Day by making a donation to a local Indigenous non-profit.
Staff at The Fire Hall Kitchen and Tap will donate 100% of their tips raised July 1 to Operation Street Angel, a non-profit that works to address poverty issues in Indigenous communities.
Front of house manager Tara Boyle hatched the idea Canmore last year, and she decided to continue it in Cranbrook.
“I brought this up at our management meeting and let the owners know that this is something that I personally do and they brought it up that I should ask the rest of the staff.,” Boyle says. “So, I just put it to them. Honestly, the response is like super overwhelming. I just didn’t think that I could even have that many staff on during the day. I’ve made it work and I think we’ll be pretty busy.”
Boyle is organizing the donations in an effort to support Indigenous people in light of recent challenges.
“I kind of fell behind a little bit in the culture and education of the people,” she says. “I just feel like that’s kind of the least I can do just to give back a little bit. It’s just basically to show support and that I’m there with them.”
The Fire Hall will also be donating $5 for every full sized poutine sold on Canada Day.
