Fernie’s Kaleb Barnum finished with a strong, burning streak on home ice this season, at the World Cup Ski Cross in Ontario.
On March 22, Barnum secured his first career World Cup podium at the Craigleith Ski Club near Collingwood, Ontario.
The 21-year-old was the youngest competitor at Sunday’s event.
“My friends and family are here and having the time of their lives, and that really helped me to just go out there and have a good time,” said Barnum. “I played to my strengths today. I don’t have the greatest starts, but I was able to carry speed and to make some passes at the bottom.”

He secured second behind the Italian Olympian, Federico Tomasoni, and was followed by fellow Canadian Ski Cross team member Kris Mahler.
“This team is full of mentors, Reece (Howden), Kris (Mahler), Jared (Schmidt), Kevin (Drury). It’s great to be able to watch and to learn from them. I’m honoured to represent Canada, and to have my first podium in Canada in front of family and friends is awesome.”
The win marks Barnum’s seventh medal for his 2025/26 season overall, following the athlete’s gold medal at the European Cup in Switzerland this January.
