Fernie’s ice is getting an upgrade.
Elk Valley Resources and the City of Fernie say a new ice resurfacer, commonly known as a Zamboni, has been ordered for the Fernie Memorial Arena.
The company has purchased the equipment, which is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
Officials say the upgraded machine will improve ice quality and efficiency for hockey, figure skating, and other events at the arena.
Elk Valley Resources CEO Mike Carrucan says the investment reflects the company’s commitment to community infrastructure and its partnership with the city.
Fernie Mayor Nic Milligan says the new resurfacer will benefit residents, athletes, and organizations that rely on the facility.
Officials add that the current resurfacer will remain in use until the new unit arrives.
