The City of Cranbrook is partnering with the B.C. government to participate in the province’s HEART and HEARTH encampment response programs.
Cranbrook is one of five communities joining the province as new Phase 2 partners under the Homeless and Encampment Response Teams (HEART) and the Homeless and Encampment Response Temporary Housing (HEARTH) programs, which are delivered through BC Housing.
Under the partnership, BC Housing and the City of Cranbrook are set to explore options for a HEARTH site to provide temporary shelter in the community.
Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Price said the partnership reflects growing recognition of the challenges faced by regional service centres
“Being considered for this opportunity reflects that understanding and offers renewed hope for those experiencing homelessness and for the overall well-being of our community,” Price said.
The expansion of the HEART and HEARTH programs is part of the province’s Belonging in B.C. plan.
There are now 15 local governments partnering with the province under the HEART and HEARTH initiatives.
