The Columbia Valley Landfill in Windermere (1875 Windermere Loop Rd.) is currently closed, according to the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK).
Firefighters are responding to a fire at the facility.
The public is being asked to stay away from the site until further notice.
The RDEK says additional information will be released once the scene is declared safe.
