In the early hours of Sunday (Sept. 14) morning, Cranbrook RCMP responded to an emergency call reporting an unwanted intruder inside a residence in the 900 block of 29th Avenue South.
The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the break and enter.
Officers reportedly arrived on scene promptly, cleared the residence, and initiated a search of the area with assistance from the Police Dog unit.
Despite extensive patrols, the intruder was not located.
The investigation remains ongoing.
“This incident highlights the critical importance of securing your home and property at all times even when you are inside,” said Cpl. Parker of the Cranbrook RCMP.
“Criminals often target homes where they can gain easy access through unlocked doors, windows, garages, or even pet doors.”
Police are urging all residents to take steps to protect their homes and property:
-
Lock all exterior doors, both day and night—even when you’re at home.
-
Secure garages, sheds, and vehicles to limit easy access to tools or entry points.
-
Check and secure pet doors and other less obvious potential points of entry.
The RCMP say that implementing these prevention measures can reduce the likelihood of a break and enter.
They encourage residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
