A Kootenay senior community is marking 20 years of service with events across southeastern B.C. aimed at raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s.
Columbia Garden Village in Invermere is celebrating its 20th anniversary, while both it and Castlewood Village in Castlegar are hosting events as part of Golden Life Management’s “Anything for Alzheimer’s” campaign.
The campaign raises funds for the Alzheimer Society of B.C., aiming to help fund research, increase advocacy, and raise awareness for Canadians living with dementia.
“This isn’t just about raising money,” said Linda Frew, community manager at Castlewood.
“It’s about standing alongside those impacted and showing we care.”
Golden Life operates 16 senior living communities across Western Canada.
According to Golden Life, their villages have reportedly raised over $50,000, with more events planned.
In Castlegar, Castlewood’s event takes place Friday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., featuring a community walk, live music, silent auction, BBQ, bake sale, and some special guests.
In Invermere, Columbia Garden Village hosts its celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 24, starting at 1 p.m.
The event will also reportedly raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s and is open to the public.
Golden Life says the cause was chosen due to the direct impact dementia has on residents, families, and care staff.
“With everyone’s support, we can build compassion and challenge misconceptions,” Frew said.
