The BC Wildfire Service, in partnership with the City of Cranbrook, is planning a prescribed burn near the Canadian Rockies International Airport, just north of Cranbrook.
The burn could begin as early as Thursday, Sept. 18, depending on weather and conditions, and may occur during evening hours to minimize flight disruption.
Up to 45 hectares will be treated intended to reduce hazardous fuels, protect infrastructure, and lower wildfire risk.
Smoke will reportedly be visible from the ʔaq̓am community, Cranbrook, surrounding areas, and nearby highways.
Some smoke may linger, especially the following mornings.
