The evacuation alert for the Silver Basin wildfire, burning near Bugaboo Provincial Park in British Columbia, has been lifted.
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) says the alert was rescinded at 4 p.m. MT on Monday, Sept. 15, following a recommendation from the BC Wildfire Service.
RDEK information officer Loree Duczek says, “The BC Wildfire Service has now classified the fire as Being Held and has recommended that it is safe to rescind the evacuation alert.”
The alert had been in place since Aug. 30.
Although the fire is now considered “Being Held,” it remains active.
Officials say it is expected to stay within its current perimeter, control lines or boundaries.
An area restriction remains in place, and Bugaboo Provincial Park is still closed to the public due to ongoing safety concerns.
