A public lecture series at College of the Rockies (COTR) is drawing parallels between two unique cultural icons: Jesus Christ and Superman.
Dr. Nathan Dueck will be at the College’s Cranbrook campus to present “Jesus vs Superman”, a discussion on how a comic book character evolved into a globally recognized figure with story themes similar to the story of Christ.
“In this presentation, we will look at how fans and media tend to conflate the Last Son of Krypton with the Son of God and explore the cultural weight of this phenomenon,” Dueck said.
“While fandom is not the same as faith, you’ll see why Superman is sometimes regarded through a lens reserved for the divine.”
The free presentation is set to take place at the campus’s main lecture theatre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on September 25.
COTR Museia is held in part with the Cranbrook Public Library. Registration is available online through the College’s website.
