With phase one of construction on the sanitary sewer trunk moving forward, changes to traffic flow along Victoria Avenue will take effect on Friday, Sept. 5.
Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction, but vehicles will need to shift to the right-hand side, just outside the original lanes.
The City of Cranbrook is encouraging drivers to avoid the area if possible to help reduce congestion and ensure a safe worksite for crews and emergency vehicles.
Additionally, the city is reminding drivers that the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 2 Street North will temporarily remain a four-way stop. It is expected to return to normal soon.
Copcan Civil LP, the contractor overseeing the infrastructure project, is replacing the original sewer trunk between 2 Street and 6 Street North aimed at addressing capacity concerns.
The project will also include upgrades to water mains and full-width paving along this section of Victoria Avenue.
Drivers are asked to slow down, follow signage, and use caution when travelling through the construction zone.
The city says the project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
