The City of Cranbrook is inviting residents to on the 2026 budget, with community safety being the top priority in this year’s citizen survey.
The survey is open until Friday, Sept. 19, and builds on feedback received during last year’s budget process, where homelessness, crime and public safety were identified as key concerns by residents.
“In this process, one of the most important parts was reviewing and responding to last year’s public comments to ensure every single one was read and considered,” says Mayor Wayne Price.
“The survey required a great deal of time and effort, with input from council and staff, to carefully review and respond. I hope everyone takes time to read the responses to their comments and know that when they share their thoughts, council listens.”
In response to the feedback, this year’s survey focuses specifically on local safety.
The city is partnering with Cranbrook RCMP to launch its first public safety survey, developed with support from criminal and social justice students at the College of the Rockies.
The public safety survey aims to help guide local policing priorities over the next four years.
The city is conducting two surveys:
-
A statistically valid survey, mailed to 1,600 randomly selected households to capture a representative view of community opinion;
-
A public opinion survey, available online and open to all residents. Paper copies can be picked up at City Hall.
According to the city, both surveys are anonymous and will be compiled by a separate firm.
Results are expected to be presented to mayor and council during the 2025 budget discussions this fall.
Residents can complete the survey online at www.cranbrook.ca/budget2026survey.
