A fire broke out early Friday morning, Aug. 22, at the Radium Park Lodge, causing significant damage and sending one person to hospital as a precaution.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 4:45 a.m. and successfully contained the blaze.
Mayor Mike Gray thanked emergency crews and village staff, highlighting that the community hall was opened to support residents displaced by the fire.
“We are relieved all occupants escaped safely,” he said.
The Radium Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire in coordination with the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Gray added that many affected residents are local workers and members of the community who support area businesses.
“We know this is a difficult day for them and encourage anyone who can to offer support in the days ahead,” he said.
The East Kootenay Emergency Management Program, together with Emergency Support Services volunteers, established a reception centre at the Radium Hot Springs Centre to assist residents and their pets.
Those unable to attend in person can register online at ess.gov.bc.ca or call 250-489-9677.
