The City of Cranbrook is moving to Stage two watering restrictions starting at noon on Wednesday, August 27, as hot weather and reduced rainfall have reportedly lowered water levels in Phillips Reservoir.
Under Stage two rules, residents may water only two days per week.
Even-numbered addresses can water on Mondays and Thursdays, while odd-numbered addresses are limited to Tuesdays and Fridays.
Watering is permitted only between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. or 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., for a maximum of two hours.
Vegetable gardens may continue to be watered with a handheld hose equipped with a shut-off nozzle, but using water outdoors for washing windows, driveways, sidewalks, or other hard surfaces is no longer permitted.
The reservoir dropped four inches over the weekend and now sits about 35 inches below full pool, according to the city’s public works department.
As part of the restrictions, staff will scale back irrigation in a number of parks and playgrounds, while maintaining watering in areas including Rotary Park, Moir Park, and local ball diamonds.
