A B.C. woman is cycling across British Columbia this September to raise funds and awareness for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
Mireille Larosa’s fundraiser, Tour de Canuck Place, will take her from Canuck Place Vancouver across B.C., finishing back in Abbotsford.
Along the route, she plans to visit communities where families supported by the hospice live.
Rewind Radio spoke with Larosa to learn what inspired her fundraising ride.
Larosa hopes to raise $100,000 to support Canuck Place’s programs, which provide care for children with limiting illnesses and support for their families, including emotional, practical, and respite services.
She says the journey is also to highlight the reach of Canuck Place’s services across B.C. and to connect with other families.
Larosa has reportedly been training regularly, balancing long rides on weekends with shorter rides during the week.
“This isn’t about being a professional athlete,” Larosa said.
“It’s about giving back to a place that gave so much to my family.”
As part of her cross-province journey, Larosa is expected to be in Cranbrook on September 6, visiting local families supported by Canuck Place.
