The RCMP in Cranbrook have been busy with a growing number of calls this summer, but one story has recently highlighted a different side of community safety.
On one evening around the last week of July, police received a call for a wellness check to help a woman found wandering nearly nine kilometres up a forest service road.
When officers arrived, the woman said she had a severe anxiety attack that caused her to black out and leave her car somewhere much farther up the road.
Corporal Rob Donovan then helped her retrace her steps, driving through rough terrain for over two hours to find her vehicle 22 kilometres into the backcountry.
“Thank you to Corporal Donovan for leading with empathy, and to the person who called in requesting support for a stranger in need thank you!” wrote Cranbrook RCMP on a social media post.
“Your actions reflect the spirit of our community; kind, supportive and committed to keeping each other safe.”
The woman was taken to hospital for further support along with her dog.
