RCMP in Kimberley had a few announcements to make at the last quarterly report to City Council on Monday (Aug. 11).
Acting commander Cpl. Dean Kletzel was unable to present the detachment’s first-quarter findings this week for S/Sgt. Steve Woodcox, who will be leaving his post.
The report from April to June 2025 shows that calls for service increased by nearly a third from the previous quarter– from 344 to 494.
Traffic and vehicle incidents (105), as well as assistance to the public or other detachments (102), along with offences such as fraud, firearms, mischief, and property concerns (70), all comprised the highest call volumes during that time.
Kletzel also noted three files of note, including the Lazy Lake campground brawl that broke out in late June, saying multiple fights happened and a possible gunshot had been heard.
“Kimberley RCMP are working toward making the “Beer Pong Olympics” a special event – staffing more members that night and arranging a meeting with the school and parents at the beginning of the year to suggest chaperones attend.”
The detachment is also considering shutting down the event, as it has “grown more out of control over the past few years.”
Kimberley Mounties currently have one member on long-term sick leave and another on paternity leave, before the new commander is set to arrive in September. The exact date of their arrival has not been finalized.
