First responders have taken one person and one pet in for treatment after an RV fire sparked in Cranbrook on early Wednesday afternoon (July 23).
Two engines and two support vehicles from Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services responded to a trailer fire and discovered smoke emanating from a fifth-wheel RV.
Neighbours had been holding down the fort using garden hoses and fire extinguishers. All occupants were accounted for —save for one dog believed to be still inside.
Firefighters went in to look for the French bulldog, Bronson, and removed him for treatment at the scene.
BC SPCA Animal Protection Officer Cst. Victor happened to be close by when the fire started and helped both Bronson and his owner.
“Having him at the scene made a huge difference — not only was he hands-on in helping treat Bronson, but he also showed a great deal of care and compassion to the owner of the trailer during a really difficult moment,” said Fire Chief Scott Driver.
“His support reminded us how much stronger our response can be when we work together across agencies.”
Cranbrook fire crews have been carrying pet-specific oxygen masks for more than a decade, thanks to One in the Family Pet Care. Bronson was given the mask and closely monitored before Cst. Victor took the dog to a local vet for further care.
Bronson is now doing well.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
