Residents in the Forest Crowne area of Kimberley may go without any water for up to 24 hours next week.
From 7 p.m. on Tuesday (July 29) to Wednesday (July 30), the City will be completing key infrastructure maintenance for the subdivision’s water system. Throughout the shutdown, residents will have no access to tap water, and toilets, as well as water-dependent cleaning appliances, will not be able to fill automatically.
“Please plan ahead by storing enough water for your household’s needs, including drinking, hygiene, and sanitation,” urged the City of Kimberley.
Affected residents can prepare by filling bathtubs or buckets for basic hygiene and keeping roughly four litres of drinking water per person. Free potable water and showers may also be available, subject to proof of address, at the Kimberley Aquatic Centre during operating hours.
“Once the water has been restored to your home, you may experience discoloured or turbid water, and possibly air in your water lines,” said the City. “If this occurs, please open one cold water tap, preferably your bathtub or an outside tap, and let it run for approximately 5 minutes or until the water runs clear.”
A second shutdown is planned for an unconfirmed date in late August. More information can be found online through the City of Kimberley’s website or by contacting the Operations Desk at 250-427-9660 or operations@kimberley.ca.
