The Fernie Chamber of Commerce has launched its 2025 Business Walk, an initiative designed to connect directly with local business owners and better understand their current challenges and opportunities.
Running from July 10 through mid-September, the Business Walk involves volunteers going door-to-door to speak with Fernie businesses in short, five-minute interviews.
The goal is to reach as many of Fernie’s 600 businesses as possible, either in person or through an online survey.
The purpose of the initiative is to collect data about the state of the local economy, from workforce shortages and supply chain concerns to growth plans and success stories.
The findings will help the Chamber and its economic development partners tailor programs, resources and advocacy efforts.
The Business Walk also aims to offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to engage with Fernie’s diverse business community.
Participants are paired in teams to visit 8–10 businesses each, with one person asking questions and the other taking notes.
Survey results will be compiled and shared publicly in the fall, helping inform economic strategies and business support planning.
Community members and business owners can get involved by completing the online survey or joining the walk team.
