Kootenay residents are buying fewer homes this summer compared to previous months– but the Association of Interior Realtors says numbers are still up from this time last year.
The Association reports that 299 sales were recorded last month in the Kootenay and Boundary region– less than May’s 310 units, but up 4.9 per cent from June 2024. New listings were also down from their monthly and annual figures, but overall active listings were up year-over-year at 1,807 units.
“The Kootenay and Boundary region continues to outperform long-term trends, with activity staying above the 10-year average. The small dip in monthly sales is offset by strong year-over-year growth, pointing to solid and sustained demand,” said the Association of Interior Realtors President Kadin Rainville.
“While new listings are down compared to last year, active listings remain healthy for a region where listings tend to move quickly, and inventory is typically lean.”
A total of 1,494 residential units were sold across the Interior region in June, up 8.5 per cent from June 2024. Active listings were also up by 5.6 per cent year-over-year, a trend seen across all Realtor association regions.
“While we’re not yet back to historic levels, the positive momentum is notable given the lingering economic uncertainty from unresolved trade policies, which have weighed more heavily on other markets in the province,” added Rainville.
Benchmark prices for single-family and townhome housing were up in the Kootenay region compared to the same month the previous year, coming in at $604,600 and $535,700. Condominiums went down 4.1 per cent at $322,200.
