The City of Cranbrook is appealing two orders issued by WorkSafeBC following a monster truck event held earlier this year at Western Financial Place.
The agency raised concerns about potential safety risks to staff, alleging that engine exhaust levels during the event exceeded unsafe limits, potentially impacting staff.
The agency also flagged the use of fill dirt brought in as part of the show setup, questioning whether the material may have been contaminated.
City officials say the fill was clean material sourced from a College of the Rockies road construction project on 30th Avenue and had been stored on city-owned property that also contains the community’s wastewater lagoons, though on a separate portion of the site.
The city says it is cooperating with WorkSafeBC and is committed to ensuring events meet all health and safety standards for both staff and the public.
It emphasized that the appeal is part of the normal investigation process.
Further updates will be shared with the public once the appeal is resolved.
