Authorities have issued a toxic drug alert in the City of Cranbrook and surrounding areas.
On Monday, June 20, Interior Health said pink chunks, powders and pebbles are being sold as down containing a fentanyl analogue, ketamine and an unspecified benzodiazepine.
“The combination of fluorofentanyl, ketamine and benzodiazepines can lead to significant sedation,” wrote Interior Health. “Overdose symptoms may last beyond administration of naloxone.”
Smoking will not be safer than injecting it. Users may experience adverse effects, including:
- High risk of overdose and fatal overdose.
- Dizziness, dissociation and confusion.
- Nausea, amnesia, sleepiness and nodding off for extended periods.
Ketamine is also a dissociative anesthetic that can cause immobilization, loss of body control and hallucinations.
If you have a drug that looks as described, call or text 260-426-3383 to get it tested. If you are intent on using, authorities ask that you do so with others around or at an Overdose Prevention Site, start with a small amount, and space out your doses.
Drug checking is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at ANKORS in Cranbrook. Residents can also find services online, by calling 211 or through the LifeGuard App.
The alert is set to remain in effect until Monday, July 7.
