A local family is hoping for community support after 15-year-old Sierra was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour, which has led to ongoing seizures and urgent medical needs.
Sierra and her mother will be travelling to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, where she is expected to undergo surgery and radiation treatment over a two- to four-week period.
The sudden diagnosis has placed financial strain on the family, as Sierra’s mother has taken time off work to care for her full-time.
Sierra’s brother, Chace, launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $11,000 to help cover medical and travel expenses, as well as day-to-day living costs during the difficult weeks ahead.
“Our family has been by her side every step of the way,” Chace wrote on the fundraising page.
“Anything helps, big or small, and will bring us closer to helping my sister receive the best possible care.”
Proceeds from the Spirit of the Rockies EKR Corral BBQ will also support the family.
