A Cranbrook-based small business advocacy group is looking to support self-starters and organizations in exploring the world of social enterprise.
On Wednesday, June 25, at 1 p.m. Mountain Time, Community Futures East Kootenay (CFEK) is launching Innovate for Impact– a new program offering tools and expert guidance to Kootenay residents interested in entrepreneurship.
“This is just to get people with an interest in transforming the Kootenays and a passion for change to bring their ideas, meet with other people, and even learn about our opportunities,” said Kerstin Renner, General Manager of the CFEK. “This is a community of like-minded people coming together, learning from one another, and inspiring one another.”
Participants can expect to work with other emerging entrepreneurs, and young people with ideas for community impact can share their thoughts in youth programming, as well as find connections to real-world work opportunities. After the launch, bi-monthly workshops will be held for those who want to delve deeper into the industry through peer learning.
“I think there are a lot of individuals doing business in the Kootenays who are doing it with a social impact, and they don’t even realize that what they’re doing is social entrepreneurship,” Renner added.
“I’m encouraging anyone who’s interested even to learn more about social enterprise, what it is, what we do, to just come out and learn more and become part of the movement.”
Anyone interested in the program can register here. The project is supported by the B.C. government and the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation through the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure (REDI) grant.
