BC Wildfire Service is now tracking a new fire northwest of Fernie, in a remote area near Iron Creek.
The blaze, N10659, was discovered on Tuesday (June 17) and is currently listed as out of control.
It is listed as under a hectare in size and is suspected to have been caused by lightning. There are currently no area restrictions near this incident.
Another fire also sparked just outside of Cranbrook Tuesday, in the New Lake area. Two initial attack crews and one helicopter responded to this wildfire, and it is now being held at 0.25 hectares. Fire number N10657 is also believed to have been caused by lightning.
There are now nine wildfires burning in the Southeast Fire Centre – three of which are listed as out of control. The Dry Creek Fire in the West Kootenay and the Copeland Creek wildfire northwest of Revelstoke are both still listed as under one hectare.
