Teams from Elk Valley Resources took the top scores at the 67th annual B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition, held June 6 and 7 at the Britannia Mine Museum.
The annual event brought together 16 mine rescue and first aid teams from across the province to compete in simulated emergency scenarios, including firefighting, high-angle rope rescue and complex first aid situations.
The competition highlights the skills of rescue workers in the area, often the first to respond in emergencies on site.
EVR’s Line Creek Operations team placed first overall in the Surface Mine Rescue category, while the Three-Person First Aid team from Fording River Operations also took first place in their division.
Line Creek team members included Harley Marshall (Captain), Kyle Brennan (Vice Captain), Jay Marshall, Kenan Ligertwood, Kyle Laboucane, JP Wallin, Coleen O’Neill, Alex Isaacs (Emergency Response Coordinator), and coaches Patrick Sorensen and Shaun Kennedy.
The top first aid team from Fording River included Jared Willett (Captain), James Dixon, and Chris Olsen, with support from coaches Vaughn Willett and Danica Newham.
