Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the East Kootenay region from Invermere to Cranbrook on Thursday (Jun. 12).
Wind gusts are forecasted to move from 20 km/h to 90 km/h early this evening, with conditions that could lead to the development of severe thunderstorms.
“When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” wrote the weather agency. “Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.”
Thunderstorms are also expected later in the evening until midnight.
