Firefighters with the Cranbrook Fire Department worked alongside BC Wildfire Service crews Tuesday to contain a wildfire near the city’s northern boundary.
The blaze, which measured approximately 30 metres by 60 metres when crews arrived, had begun gaining momentum.
Six firefighters from Cranbrook and four from BC Wildfire Service were sent to control the fire, which has since been contained.
No structures were at risk and there were no reported injuries.
Crews remained on site Tuesday evening to monitor for hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Cranbrook Fire Chief Scott Driver praised the collaboration with provincial wildfire crews, calling it critical in a region increasingly affected by fire activity.
“We are thankful for the ongoing support and expertise of the BC Wildfire Service members that support us here in the Southeast Fire Centre,” said Driver.
“We work closely with staff at the Zone office and appreciate the commitment to community safety that they demonstrate year after year.”
Driver said the growing frequency and severity of wildfires highlight the importance of collaboration among public safety agencies.
